For those in search of the sweet life, a one-day event centered on chocolate and all its deliciousness takes place in Rainbow City, Ala. the first Saturday in April. The Alabama Chocolate Festival offers plenty of sweet fun for everyone to enjoy. Activities include an egg toss contest, live music, arts and crafts, carnival rides, a chocolate taste-off, and three chocolate fountains. The fun kicks off at 10 a.m.
Visitors to the festival can sample entries in the Chocolate Taste-Off contest immediately following judging which takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as purchase their favorite chocolates from an assortment of chocolatiers and chocolate artisans. The three 5-tier chocolate fountains open at 11 a.m. and are free to anyone wanting to dip his or her favorite treat. At 11:15 a.m., the egg toss takes place, providing eggciting fun for festivalgoers of all ages. Festivalgoers will also want to make their way to the chocolate buggy for free chocolate candy.
Carnival rides will provide entertainment throughout the day on Saturday as well as Friday. Wristbands will be sold Friday only for $15 for unlimited rides or $1.25 per ticket. On Saturday, attendees may purchase 22 tickets for $25 or individual tickets for $1.25/ticket. (Wristbands will not be honored on Saturday.)
Live music also entertains festivalgoers as they make their way around. Slated to headline this year’s event is Collin Raye who will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Additional performers include Southern Sound, Exodus, Still Kickin and Them Dirty Roses.
Festivalgoers have a chance at winning one of six $250 cash prizes. Raffle tickets will be sold for a $1 each, or receive a free ticket with the purchase of a Pepsi drink. Six winners will be selected (must be present to win). Drawings will be held at 12:15, 2:45, 4:15 and 6 p.m.
All activities are held at Rainbow Plaza Shopping Center located at 3225 Rainbow Drive. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Coolers and pets are not allowed.
