Benton Arts and Heritage Days
Event Dates: October 29, 2011 - October 30, 2011
Benton Arts and Heritage Days is a two-day festival held the last weekend in October to celebrate the rich artistic cultural heritage of Benton and surrounding areas. Live bluegrass bands and singer-songwriters are featured on Saturday; gospel music is featured on Sunday. The downtown courthouse square is closed off for the event to allow the streets to be lined with demonstrators, artists, crafters and food vendors. The music featured during the event is set up in front of the west side of the courthouse. An antique tractor show is held at the nearby Benton IGA. An event highlight is Quilt Court, a quilt show held inside the old courtroom of the historic courthouse. Quilts are draped across old court benches as well as being displayed on the jury box and judges bench. Stories about the history of the quilts is included when shared by the family. Because Benton Arts and Heritage Days occurs close to Halloween, Sunday's events include costumes and free candy provided by the City of Benton. Pumpkin decorating, sidewalk chalk, a bouncy house and other activities for children are available on both days.
