Downtown Decatur is the heart and soul of the Decatur community. In recent years, the downtown area has undergone a transformation with more developments planned in the near future. The new $17 million Cook Museum of Natural Science will open in late 2017. Addition attractions include the historic Princess Theatre for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Visual Arts Center, Old State Bank, Blue and Gray Museum, a farmers market, the historic train depot, Alabama Center for the Arts, and Morgan County Archives. Locally owned boutiques and shops offer hours of shopping and the food scene varies from down-home cooking to up-town cuisine.
