Café Memories is a hometown favorite filled with nostalgic décor that brings back memories. Lunchtime, any day you're likely to run into local personalities and politicians. It's also a meeting place for planning events. In short, it's a spot the locals adore with daily, made-to-order specials that hit the spot.
The café is in the historic downtown, once dominated by railroad hotels. This building was built to provide meals for the railroad passengers in the 1800s, and to provide an off-site kitchen for the local hotels. The hotels are now gone, but the railroad still exists, and some railroad history still remains in Jaybird Park, just across the street from Café Memories.

Locally or Family Owned Business Notes
In 1997 Reid McNatt and his father opened Café Memories. "We both liked to cook, so we bought this building. It was sort of sink or swim," said McNatt. "We were open for 12 years, and the economy got us so I closed and went to work for Ruby Tuesdays." After three years, McNatt was able to reopen his popular establishment.
"I was here another eight years when Jamie and Wesley Orick, who are kind of crazy like me, decided to buy the restaurant." Reid continues to work for Café Memories part time. Wesley keeps delicious food coming out of the kitchen with the help of the staff, and Jamie keeps the books.
I told them that "this is the hardest job you'll ever do," said McNatt. "But if you'll be good to the people, they'll be good to you."
