Catfish Festival

Catfish are plentiful in Lake Guntersville and to celebrate, the Scottsboro Small Business Council presents a one-day event centered on one of America’s favorite outdoor activities – fishing.  Held along the banks of Lake Guntersville in Scottsboro, the annual Catfish Festival offers activities appealing to avid anglers and non-anglers, including a catfish fry, arts and crafts, and games and activities for children and pets.  Festivities kick off at 8 a.m. with the day typically wrapping up around 3 p.m.

From 8 a.m. to noon, children are invited to bring their fishing rods to try to catch (and keep) as many catfish as they can for free.  Fishing will take place at the boat ramp in the park and bait is provided.

The car, truck, motorcycle, and antique tractor show begins at 8 a.m. with arts and crafts, concessions, and a free kids area offering inflatables, bungee jump, and face painting ready to go at 9 a.m.  Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the live entertainment.

The Shriner’s will be selling their popular catfish dinners beginning at 11 a.m. and there will also be plenty of concession vendors offering typical festival food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, funnel cakes and snow cones.

Pets are also welcome to join in on the festivities. A pet parade and costume contest is set for 12 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Entry fee is a $5 donation.  Always 3rd Saturday in May.
