Down Home Summer Fest

All things local will be the focus when the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce launches a new festival in June. The Down Home Summer Fest is set for June 22, 2019, and will feature crafts, entertainment, food and other family-friendly fun.
 
The free fun starts at 10 a.m. and throughout the day, there will be a kid zone play area, local crafts, live music by local performers, plenty of food and fireworks. Music takes to the stage at 5 p.m. and features all local talent. Slated to perform are Sole Survivor, Brandon Elder and Damon Johnson.
 
Soul Survivor (www.soulsurvivorband.com) features the sounds of rock and soul from the 70s and later. Based out of Guntersville, band members Mike Marbut, Bobby Delander, Stan Dailey, Lowell Shirey, Gene Pledger bring a plethora of accolades ranging from Dove Award nominations, number one hits on southern gospel charts, Addie awards and major record deals.Each member has over 30 years of experience entertaining crowds across the Southeast.
 
Singer-songwriter Brandon Elder (www.facebook.com/brandoneldermusic/) is from Arab, Ala. and performs a variety of music that includes country and Southern rock. He made his American Idol debut in March but his run ended when he did not make the cut during Hollywood Week.
 
International guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Damon Johnson (www.facebook.com/damonjohnsonfans/) is currently a member of rock bands Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders. In the 1990s the Geraldine, Alabama native co-founded and fronted Brother Cane, and would later spend six years in Alice Cooper's band as lead guitarist. He was also the lead guitarist and co-vocalist for country music group Whiskey Falls.
 
Following a day filled with entertainment, the event concludes with a spectacular fireworks show. All activities take place along Billy Dyar Boulevard in downtown Boaz. Admission is free.
