The J.P. Coleman State Park Campground is a popular place for outdoor enthusiasts. Primitive camping, 69 RV parking pads, 23 cabins and a 19 unit motel provide a wide variety of experiences at the park, which is located on the shores and bluffs of Pickwick Lake. For RV campers, a dump station is onsite. Campers also have picnic shelters, rest rooms and a laundry facility. Many campsites are near the waters edge, while others are located high above the water on one of the rocky bluffs overlooking the pristine lake.
Reservations and additional camping opportunities may be found by contacting the park office or the internet at http://www.mdwfp.com/parks or by contacting Reserve America at 1-800-467-2757.
During the spring and fall migrations, many types of birds pass through and waterfowl are common throughout the year.
Fishermen utilize the boat ramp and parking close by the main office. Fishing tournaments are coordinated with the office staff. Smallmouth bass, crappie and catfish are the most popular catches, but many other fish are available seasonally. Water-skiing and jet skis are very popular at Pickwick. Fishing and boating regulations may be found at http://www.mdwfp.com/fishing-boating/.
