LaGrange College Site Historic Hayrides

Long before Alabama became a state, LaGrange Mountain in Colbert County, Alabama, has been known to be HAUNTED. Nobody knows how many ghosts are supposed to walk the mountain but, it’s said, “Peter McKinney is easily recognized. He’s the shoemaker of definite Irish descent, wearing flashy clothes and forever searching for his partner, a man by the name of Mourland, tradition says, the two fought. Mourland crushed McKinney’s skull with a shoemaker’s tool and left him dead on the shop floor.”
Paranormal Investigators have traveled from all over the country to investigate the Paranormal Activity at the Old College Site and Cemetery. It has been said, “There is more activity at this site than any other place.”

The LaGrange Living Historical Association has discouraged folks from coming to the Park over the years and especially to the historic LaGrange Cemetery, because of previous vandalism to the old tomb stones. The Association has guarded the site continuously in the past; however, last year (2018) for the first time, a decision was made to have a controlled event for the young people and for the “young at heart”.

The event was advertised; “HAUNTED HAYRIDES during week-ends in October.” Strict rules were given to those who dared to travel the frightening journey up the mountain from the old Tabernacle grounds. Large crowds, consisting mostly of families, came, stood in lines for hours to have the opportunity to be a part of the Haunted Hayride. A number of people returned the following week end and brought others with them. It was an extremely successful event with numerous people expressing excitement about attending the Hayride in October 2019.

From Dusk until 11:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 per person. 6 and under free. Come out to see how haunted the mountain really is!!!!! If you dare!!

Proceeds from the Event went toward operations of the Park and Cemetery grounds.
