Mill Creek Gap also known as Buzzard's Roost Gap was the site of the opening battles for Atlanta in May of 1864. Mill Creek flows through this natural gap that is level with the valley floor. The Confederate Army of Tennessee prepared this area by flooding the gap with 2 dams across Mill Creek, preventing the Union Army from entering Dalton in this direction. A CCC era pocket park denotes the action during this battle and is located in front of the Georgia State Patrol Office. Interests and Areas of Expertise
I am the Marketing Manager for the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau here in Dalton, Georgia. My background includes Marketing, Graphic Design and Photography.
Dalton is a great place to both live and visit. I like to hang out downtown at some of the local restaurants, bars, and eclectic shops. If I'm not downtown, I'm usually up on Dug Gap Mountain hiking the Pinhoti Trail, or Dug Gap battlefield.
I Definitely recommend the outdoor activities in Dalton, Georgia. During the Spring, Summer, and fall months, Dalton experiences some of the most beautiful weather in Georgia. Spring is very pleasant, Summer a little warm at times, and fall the best of all. Especially if you like to go hiking or camping. But all three offer something different. Spring is a great time to be out, walking, enjoying the great weather. Maybe riding around down the beautiful scenic highway in North Georgia. Summer, there's so much to do. Catch fire flies, go swimming, have cookouts and parties, and visit one of the many state and national parks in this area. Fall is the best time in my opinion. The leaves are changing into some of the most beautiful colors in the world, and it's not too hot or too cold yet to get out and enjoy the beauty. Fall is for horse back riding down one of our many trails, or mountain biking at Snake Creek Gap, or Raisin Woods. Camping up on Fort Mountain. Large bon fires with friends. Fall is just an all around great time of year here in North West Georgia. I also recommend the night life in Dalton. Downtown Dalton is a happening place most of the time. Especially on weekends. I'm usually at one of the local Bar and Grills, or up at Planet of the Grapes sipping wine with my lovely wife. Music venues are huge in Dalton, with so many good bands coming from the area. Local bands is where its at when it comes to hearing good music, and seeing great performances. Want to know more about the events in Dalton? Visit our website www.daltonevents.com
