Ocoee Whitewater Center

The Ocoee Whitewater Center is located on a world class (Class 3) stretch of rapids. This section of river was used for competition in the 1996 Olympic Games. As part of the development of the site for the games they constructed the whitewater center, a two level log and natural stone building housing a coffee shop, gift shop, and toilet facilities. The building has a covered porch on the second level that is ideal for relaxing and watching the river go by. There is a foot bridge that crosses the river at this point and walking trails on both sides of the river. The river bottom and the banks are studded with interesting boulders containing veins of copper and iron ore. The river gorge is narrow and heavily forested. It is very scenic and a pleasant afternoon walk even if you are not going into the water. The site has easy access and plenty of parking and is about 30 minutes from I-75.
