The Oconaluftee Visitor Center is an excellent place to stop and plan a trip in the Smokies, whether it's just for a couple of hours or a several day journey in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While visiting the center, opened in April 2011, take an opportunity to learn more about the cultural history of the area with an exhibit that will take you on a journey through the human history of the Smokies region.
Make sure to take a tour around the Mountain Farm Museum while you are there to learn about life on a mountain farm, either by yourself or with a ranger.
January, February and March 8:30am-4:30pm. April, May, September, October 8 am-6pm. June, July and August 8am - 7pm. November 8am-5pm. December 8am - 4:30pm.
This facility was constructed utilizing several eco-friendly practices including: solar tubes to take advantage of solar lighting, recycled rubber roofing, geothermal heating system and rain water harvesting to use for the flush toilets in the visitor restrooms.

No pets are allowed within the visitor center or the Mountain Farm Museum.
