Rocky Mount Living History Museum

Rocky Mount was the home of William and Barsheba Cobb, who settled in Tennessee in 1770.  During the period of 1790-1792 his home hosted Gov. William Blount and served as the capital of the Southwest Territory, which became the state of Tennessee.

About this Establishment

Rocky Mount Museum offers 'Living History Tours' of the Cobb home and reconstructed outbuildings including a kitchen and weaving cabin.  Living History interpreters portraying the Cobb family of 1791 guide visitors through the historic site "bringing to life" the pioneers of Tennessee.  Modern museum galleries show the history of East Tennessee with many fine examples of artifacts used in early Tennessee.

Tuesday-Saturday 11-5 with the last tour beginning no later at 4:00

Visitor Fees

Adult: $8, Senior $7, Child $5 with discounts for those with AAA or AARP.

How to Get There

Rocky Mount is located at 200 Hyder Hill Rd, Piney Flats TN, off of 11-E/19-W between Johnson City and Bristol.  From Interstate 81, take I-26 towards Johnson City.  Take exit 19- State of Franklin, turn left towards Bristol, follow State of Fraklin until it merges with 11-E towards Bristol.  Rocky Mount is about 4 miles on the right.
