Sunset Gap Community Center

Sunset Gap has been working in our community since the early 1900s and we are the only facility that offers our unique services in the county. We have groups that come in from all over the United States and spend a week in our community in order to repair or rebuild homes for people who are disabled, elderly, or who just do not have the income to make their home livable. This is done with no cost to the home owners.

We also run a thrift store and two food pantries.  We are working with the Adult Education Program in Newport in order to help more people get their GED. Sunset Gap started as Juniper school in the early 1900's and changed to Sunset Gap when local residents donated land to build the building that now houses our community center.

How to Participate

/Most of our groups come to the Gap in May - August to do home repairs. We also have week or weekend  projects available during the off season. You can contact us at 423-623-4313 or visit our website at  for more information. We take donations for our food pantry and thrift store throughout the year. (Proceeds from the sale of merchandise in the thrift store go to support our programs here at Sunset Gap.)

We would love to have your group come and participate in one of our work camp projects. We also enjoy visitors, so feel free to stop by to say hello and learn more about Sunset Gap.
