Well Being Retreat Center

Well Being Retreat Center is a non-profit, non-affiliated and non-denominational foundation. The cabins are quite comfortable but do not include phone service, TV, internet, stereo systems, etc. Guests are asked not to bring alcohol or pets or illicit drugs onto on the property and smoking is not allowed in any building (including decks and patios). In short, these facilities are intended to provide an opportunity to enjoy the simplicity and freshness of Nature, to steep yourself in the stillness here, and to enjoy honest-to-goodness, non-electronic recreation such as kayaking on the Powell River, hiking to the top of the hill to see the mountains roll off into the blue/green distance, watching deer graze, being stunned by the beauty of a woodland wildflower, or hearing the primeval sound of a Pileated Woodpecker.

Lodging Style and Amenities

There are five Cabins and six Cabinettes that together can sleep up to 28 people.  Pricing varies depending on lodging amenities.  All Cabins have tiled floors, vaulted pine ceilings, kitchenettes with fridge, unlimited (on demand) hot water, and very comfortable beds. The Wood Duck is the largest cabin with a full size kitchen, dining and living area. The other four cabins are earth-sheltered with sod roofs which keep the cabins warm in the winter and cool in the summer. (Deer will sometimes graze on the rooftops.) These cabins are sheathed with rough-sawn, locally harvested Red Oak lumber which will fade to gray in color but will naturally last for many decades without paint or stain.

Eco-Friendly Notes

The Mission of Well Being Foundation is “to promote harmony with Nature, wellness of our bodies, and peace of mind.” At first glance, these goals may seem unrelated. But it seems that we tend to treat Nature as we treat our own bodies. This is not surprising since our bodies are not separate from Nature. If treated with care and respect, both tend to thrive. They can even stand some abuse and still get by for a while. (Remember being 21?) But Nature is the home team and always bats last. And, of course, a certain peace-of-mind is essential to how we all respond to the inevitable challenges of life and to the choices that we make. Noticing the stillness within ourselves and in Nature can bring these aspects of our being into alignment.
